Classroom Procedures
TEAM FOLDER: You $4 donation will be used to create a durable plactic home-to-school team folder to carry any work, mail, or special notes to and from school. This will be taken home every night, and I will expect it to be returned the following day. This is a great way to keep students organized and responsible. Also, unless there is time-sensitive information, know that every Monday your child will bring home their graded work and school news home from the previous week. I only check these folders on Tuesday Mornings. If there is something your child needs to turn in to me or the office, please remind them to turn it when he/she arrives to the classroom. I will designated areas where the kiddos can responsibly turn things in at as well.
ABSENCES: Hopefully this won't be an issue this year, but if your child is absent or tardy, the office must have a note or call from you. School begins promptly at 8:35. Also, if there are any changes in the regular transportation arrangements, please call the office (ext 2400) or sent a note. If there ever is an extended illness or vacation, please know that asking for work does not replace the classroom experience, therefore, I'll do my best as long as you too are understanding and flexible. Please know that schoolwork on long vacations will most likely include duties such as collecting/ reading/ presenting travel brochures, calculating food costs using receipts, taking pictures of different habitats, or writing a daily journal. We'll enjoy the presentation when your child returns!
WEEKLY NEWS: a newsletter once a week will be sent home detailing things like curriculum, important dates, reminders, etc, for your benefit. This will come in the form of a link using Google Docs, every Monday, through email.
STUDENT OF THE WEEK: In an effort to integrate note taking, presentation skills, letter writing, and a little group bonding, we participate in a Student of the Week activity each week. You will be notified by letter when your child is the "Student of the Week." The letter gives suggestions of how your child can present themselves. The more you make out of it, the more memorable it is for your child.
SIGNUP GENIUS: For special events and parties, I utilize Signup Genius to ask for donations and volunteers . This will come to you via email or Bloomz. This gives you the opportunity to help our class.
SNACK & DRINKS: Snacks and drinks will be welcomed this year as long as they are healthy. Water only in the classroom please in a non-spill bottle! Snack times will be integrated into afternoon WORK TIME, so we may be reading or writing while we snack. We also welcome classroom snacks. If you are able to donate a classroom snack, please be sure it is individually wrapped. Suggestions: Goldfish crackers, Granola bars, pretzels
